VIEW: OPEN LETTER TO HON. BABAJIMI BENSON, HON. TOYIN GAFAAR BOLOWOTAN AND THE APC LEADERSHIP IN IKORODU DIVISION

By Hon. Prince Kehinde Gbadebowale Oyefusi

Subject: A Call for Political Tolerance, Fairness and Respect for Democratic Rights

Hon. Prince Kehinde Gbadebowale Oyefusi, ADC Ikorodu Constituency I candidate

Dear Hon. Babajimi Benson, Hon. Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan, and Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC),

I write with respect, but also with deep concern, following repeated reports of the removal and destruction of my campaign posters and banners across Ikorodu Constituency I.

After previously reporting incidents at Odogiyan and other locations, I regret to report that another of my campaign banners has been removed at Isiu. An eyewitness reportedly observed individuals believed to be APC members removing it. I believe this matter deserves your attention and a fair investigation.

Hon. Babajimi Benson, your work through the iCare Foundation has brought attention to the importance of compassion and community service. I therefore appeal to you, as a respected political leader in Ikorodu, to encourage political tolerance and ensure that the democratic rights of all candidates are respected.

Hon. Bolowotan and APC leaders, political competition should be about ideas, records, policies and service to the people not the removal of an opponent’s campaign materials. No candidate should be prevented from expressing their political views peacefully and lawfully.

Removing my banners will not remove my voice, and destroying posters will not determine the will of the people. Ultimately, it is the electorate that decides who represents them.

If the individuals responsible are acting under the influence of political interests, I urge the relevant leaders to call them to order. I do not wish to see this situation escalate into retaliation or unnecessary tension. I am committed to peaceful engagement and believe that every party should conduct its activities within the law.

The 2027 elections must be an opportunity for healthy democratic competition. Every candidate—whether from the ruling party or the opposition—deserves the freedom to present their message without intimidation. Fairness and fundamental rights must be respected, regardless of political affiliation.

I respectfully call on the APC leadership in Ikorodu Division to help prevent further incidents, encourage their supporters to act responsibly, and support a peaceful environment in which all candidates can campaign freely.

This is not a call for confrontation. It is a call for fairness, restraint, accountability and respect for democracy. We may belong to different political parties, but we share the same communities and must continue to live together long after the elections.

Let us compete on the strength of our ideas and records. Let the people hear every candidate and make their choice freely.

Democracy belongs to the people. Their voices must never be suppressed.

Yours respectfully,

Hon. Prince Kehinde Gbadebowale Oyefusi
ADC Candidate
Lagos State House of Assembly
Ikorodu Constituency I
